Tutor Ready is a new on-line resource that will prepare tutors and continue to equip tutors as they work with students.  Here they can get as much training as they need to feel comfortable, and they can return to the site for refreshers as they the need arises.  Each module is about 15-20 minutes long, and includes research based methods about how to teach reading to adults, and includes videos or real tutors using those techniques with real students.

There are a total of 52 modules, and the entire curriculum can be completed in about 12-15 hours.  Since many of our volunteer tutors have prior experience in education, we require that they view at least 4 hours of the curriculum.

After they complete the minimum of 4 hours, new tutors will be given a tutoring assignment.

Thinking about tutoring?

We are changing the way we train tutors -- you don't have to wait for a face to face training, just dive right in! Contact us if you are interested in volunteering, and you can meet with the Literacy Administrator to learn what it's all about.  Tutors generally spend 60-90 minutes a week with their students, and our tutors report that they benefit as much as their students!
